The Couch-Bound Mandarins: When Parasites Demand More Host

The Couch-Bound Mandarins: When Parasites Demand More Host

Human history is an endless chronicle of administrative classes convincing themselves that they are the irreplaceable pillars of civilization. From the eunuchs of the late Ming Dynasty who grew rich while the borders collapsed, to the gilded court at Versailles demanding cake for the starving masses, the elite bureaucracy has always shared one biological instinct: maximum resource extraction for minimum physical output.

Consider the latest antics of Britain’s civil servants. Having successfully weaponized the pandemic to transform their living rooms into permanent sanctuaries of sloth, the Public and Commercial Services union is now balloting for a strike. Their demands? A four-day work week, a ten percent pay raise, guaranteed work-from-home privileges, and the legally enforced "right to switch off."

It is a masterpiece of modern institutional parasitic behavior.

In the natural world, an animal that stops hunting soon starves. But in the artificial ecosystem of state bureaucracy, the laws of biology are hilariously inverted. The tax-funded mandarin does not produce wealth; he merely tolls the gate where real wealth is generated. Over millions of years, the hairless ape developed a fierce drive to hoard calories while expending as little energy as possible. In a primitive tribe, a lazy hunter would be exiled or left to freeze. In a modern democracy, he organizes a union ballot and demands a three-day weekend.

The cosmic irony is that these laptop-warriors genuinely believe they are oppressed. As inflation bites the tax-paying citizens who actually build roads, fix pipes, and risk capital in the private market, the civil servant sits on his sofa in sweatpants, complaining that opening emails past five o'clock violates his human rights.

When a state allows its administrative class to dictate its own workload while bleeding the productive host dry, it is no longer governing. It is simply an oversized welfare state run for the benefit of those who administer it. History teaches us that when those who rule stop serving and start freeloading, the collapse of the imperial machine is not far behind.
