The Patriotism Test: Why Leaders Always Buy Imported While Preaching Domestic
There is a touching, profoundly naive belief that ideological purity is a universal law meant for everyone equally. Consider the recent uproar over Beijing's healthcare procurement list. Seventeen local hospitals were ordered to purge 177 foreign CT scanners and replace them entirely with domestic brands, all in the glorious name of "supporting national industry, achieving self-reliance, and breaking foreign monopolies." It sounds like a stirring anthem of technological triumph. Yet, eagle-eyed internet sleuths noticed one glaring omission from the purge: the People’s Liberation Army General Hospital, famously known as the 301 Hospital. This is the inner sanctum where the party's top brass and central leadership receive their medical care. When it comes to ideology, domestic is mandatory; when it comes to a high-stakes tumor scan, suddenly German or American precision is non-negotiable.
Human history is fundamentally a museum of ruling classes creating two entirely separate tiers of reality: one rulebook of sacrifice and ideological purity for the peons, and another unwritten exemption for the masters. Our species is biologically wired for hypocrisy disguised as virtue; deep in our evolutionary instincts, tribal chieftains always demanded that warriors eat the tough rations while keeping the tender cuts of meat for the inner circle, all while lecturing the tribe on collective solidarity. We are creatures of profound self-deception, wrapping our blatant double standards in high-sounding patriotic slogans.
The supreme irony of authoritarian nationalism is that patriotism is always outsourced to the vulnerable. Civilization isn't preserved by forced ideological compliance; it survives despite the staggering cynicism of those who write the rules. The next time a government mandates that everyone must use domestic substitutes, check where the leadership goes when they get sick: in the grand theater of power, patriotism is the ultimate export, reserved strictly for everyone else.

北京日前發布了一份震撼醫療圈的招標清單，轄下十七家醫院的一百七十七台CT設備必須全數汰換為國產品牌，全面禁止進口貨，官方大肆宣傳這是為了「支持國產、打破外國壟斷」。然而，眼尖的網友卻在名單裏發現了一個妙不可言的缺口——專門負責中央領導與軍委首長保健的解放軍總醫院（301醫院），竟然完美避開了這場國產化浪潮。談到意識形態與口號時，國產貨是絕對的光榮；但輪到自己要躺上檢查台照X光時，那套被批判得體無完膚的西方進口精密儀器，卻突然又成了不可或缺的救命稻草。

我們這個時代最深刻的諷刺，莫過於口口聲聲喊着民族自豪感的體制，對自家產品的實際信心往往比誰都低。文明往往不是毀於外敵的入侵，而是死於這種將特權合理化、將口號商品化的虛偽。下次當你又聽到某個官方機構在大力推廣國產替代時，不妨去打聽一下他們高幹病房裏擺的是甚麼牌子的機器：在大國博弈的大戲裏，愛國主義向來是拿來洗腦的宣傳品，而真正的頂級好物，永遠是留給特權階級自己私藏的保命符。
